What is Homoeopathy?
Homoeopathy is a system of medicine which was formulated 300 years ago, by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann a German physician. There are two basic principles underlying its philosophy.
The first suggests that whatever symptoms are shown by the sufferer they are not the illness itself, but simply the evidence of the disordered person trying to regain health. A common example of this would be the vomiting or diarrhoea by which someone suffering from food poisoning attempts to cleanse the system of the upsetting substance.
It works on the principle of ‘like cures like’ …that is, a substance that would cause symptoms in a healthy person is used to cure those same symptoms in illness. For example, one remedy which might be used in a person suffering from insomnia is Coffea, a remedy made from coffee.
What is the consultation like?
The Homoeopath will need to gather a considerable amount of information to enable them to select the most suitable remedy from the two or three thousand available. This will act on the system to help it to regain a balanced and harmonious function which restores health. The symptoms then disappear as a consequence. Many aspects of the patient and their family history will be relevant in this process so it’s often helpful, if you are able to make a note of any illnesses of any severity in the family and to think back over your own past medical history.
What can be treated with Homoeopathy?
Whilst it must be said that no simple system of medicine has all the answers to all problems, Homoeopathy does have a very good success rate in helping many complaints.
“….Homoeopathy can be used to successfully treat many health problems. Whilst all cured cases are rewarding I feel a particular satisfaction treating women during pregnancy. Not only is Homoeopathy one of the few truly safe remedies during pregnancy, but I feel it plays a part in educating generations towards healthier living…..”
